This morning I’m off to work at Engine Company 23 at 19th and Damen. To get there, I’ll be transferring to the CTA Blue Line’s Douglas branch. Beginning in June of 2006, the Douglas Branch will no longer be part of the Blue Line (except during weekday rush periods); it will be partially rerouted and redubbed the Pink Line.

Also, Engine 23’s house is right around the corner from The Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum. R and I love this place, and we go there whenever we have a good excuse. Currently through September, the museum is hosting an exhibit entitled The African Presence in Mexico: From Yanga to the Present. There’s no way we’re going to miss this precious bit of history, but I think I’ve managed to convince R to postpone a visit there until after the Pink Line starts running. Ideally, I’d like to make the trip on the Pink Line’s inaugural weekend, so that we can sandwich two bits of history around a fun outing.

Anyway, I’d better get out of here before I’m late.
